Freelance Company Project: Text

What is FCP?

Freelance Company Project (FCP) was born as an answer to systemic flaws and the lack of support received by the freelance dance community (already the case prior to but exacerbated by the lockdown and the pandemic). As professional training and rehearsals were progressively re-introduced, only established Companies, benefiting from their permanent structure and stronger organised funding, could start working again. Sadly, most freelancers fall through the gaps without access to any financial support or training facilities.

FCP aims to provide some supportive structure and has started by organising Freelance Company Classes (FCC): a safe space for professional dancers to gather, train, exchange expertise and energy IN DANCE STUDIOS. In fact, in order for freelance dancers to stay healthy and ready for the time when performing comes back to life, it is crucial that dancers have regular access to a spacious environment offering optimal conditions for training, away from poor, dangerous flooring and the hazards of furniture, kettles, kitchen counters, etc.

FCC nurtures diversity and rotates Class Leaders as much as possible. In this way, it offers its participants a wide range of Contemporary Dance and Ballets Techniques, encouraging everyone to benefit from each other’s talents and expertise, as well as improving mental and physical adaptability and versatility. Besides which, it provides a teaching platform to a wider audience of both developing and established artistic leaders.

FCC is a non-profit organisation, run on a tight but transparent budget and is committed to keeping its fees as low as possible. All profit is reinvested into studio rent, regular Class Leader compensation and the growth of future projects, workshops and/or requests from the community.  FCP aims to keep supporting dancers with their regular practice, development and maintenance in their career and between projects.
